You get a Fandom, and YOU get a fandom!
We’ve all got one. We’ve all been a part of it. Sometimes, it haunts us. Always, it defines us.
Fandoms.
There’s something uniquely special about belonging to a group of people with a shared interest, where you can be yourself and geek out. Existing in a judgement-free zone, you can build communities, share tips and secret histories, learn something new about your interests- and even about yourself. With a world full of tech-savvy fan’s out there, there are countless ways to connect with your group now.
The age of social media and conglomerate gatherings has given us the gift of GIFs, Memes, Cosplay, YouTube channels, DIY tutorials, FanFiction and more. You can bear your flag all over the world, without ever having to leave your home! And, you know what: That’s amazing. We now live in a time where it can be seen as “cool” that you collect Pokemon cards, or watch Anime, or love superheros. We have transformed yesterday’s “geeks” into tomorrow’s CEO’s and influencers. SO, yeah, we’re here for it.
Fandoms have given us access to learning the innate being of a person, just by association. You can learn deep, personal details about who a person is at their core, just based on one’s Fandom leanings: What Hogwarts House are you in? Star Wars or Star Trek? What’s your favorite Pokemon Type? Batman or Superman? Arwen or Eowyn? Highgarden or Dorne? Lucy or Susan? Narnia or Middle Earth? Which ‘Friend’ are you?
(I’m a Monica/Phoebe hybrid, BTW.)
Without saying much, it says a lot about who you are.
It’s a shockingly diverse world out there, and we’re into anything that opens our mind a bit, and lets us express ourselves. Cheers to the creators of all the things we love, and cheers to the brothers and sisters that share in the bliss.
So, who do you Rep? What flags do you fly? Have you ever abandoned a fandom?
(((((Is that blasphemy????)))))
In the immortal words of J.R.R. Tolkien,
“The road goes ever on, and on”
– may we continue to travel it together, forging our way in the world. And, remember:
Winter is coming.
May the Force be with you.
Live long and prosper!
Always.
