Cheers to Spring & Summer!

I think we can all agree, May is a pretty great month. Throughout our lives it has ushered in the rise of Spring & Summer: time off from School, a smattering of vacations, swim suits & sunshine and so much more. Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to relish in it!

I gotta be honest, my January-current 2018 life situation has been a real shit show. This week one of our giant trees (that has desperately needed trimming, which we have avoided, because we are cheap and dumb) broke in half. IN HALF! Okay, that was dramatic, it didn’t break in half, but the worlds largest branch did snap off, and is now taking up the majority of our back yard. Luckily when this monster fell, it avoided breaking anything (except my spirit). So, all in all- that’s amazing! Now it’s just a financial and physical inconvenience. (Because in case you hadn’t heard yet, tree trimming is expensive and there goes my extra spending money!)

So, I should look at that as a blessing (#blessed), but it’s just one more fucking thing! Amirite folks?!

But now, it’s in the past. So I’m harnessing the power of SPRING TIME AND SUMMER HORIZONS to get me through life.

This time of year has always helped my spirits raise, and I am using this prospect to turn my attitude around!

I did a tarot party with some friends at the beginning of the year, and my readings *basically* said that the first quarter of my year was gonna blow (accurate), but that my spring would usher in fruitfulness and happy times: So it is, so it shall be!

So, what are some of your favorite things about Spring/Summer?

Check out my ‘Top 5 Fave Spring/Summer Hallmarks’ below to get excited with me!:

5. Hiking/Swimming: When you live in Texas, this is a must. One of my favorite things about Austin is going for a hike at The Greenbelt and ending up at a waterfall where you can take a dip and sip on something in the sunshine. There’s nothing quite like working up a good sweat, a taste for cold water and an appetite for a cat-nap in a shallow pool. Better yet, it’s an activity that’s great for the whole fam-bam!

backyard

4.My Backyard: (You know, that place currently smothered in branches, twigs & leaves?) When I can’t get out of the house to be in nature, or take the dogs for a walk, my backyard is LIFE. It’s often the place I go to in the morning to stretch and read a book, or to throw a tennis ball with the dogs, or just to sit and drink coffee. My family has always been back porch sitters, and I have fond memories sitting with my dad while he smoked a cigarette and drank coffee. Now I have my own version of that, and it’s full of plants and sunshine and happiness in the spring and summer. My fave times of day back there are first thing in the morning, and after the sun goes down snuggled next to the fire pit.

sunshine

3. Extended Sunshine: This bullshit about time change throws me off twice a year, and I get so frustrated. Working that 9-5 life leaves little to no time to take my dogs for a walk when we’re living in the fall/winter. It’s miserable. I feel like I wake up in darkness, and drive home to a sunset. So, Spring/Summer bring the extended sunshine to my life schedule, and TBH it makes life so much better to live. I am not meant to ever live in Alaska, or any part of the world that experiences weird sun/moon ratios. Having that extra sunshine allows me to be a good dog mom, have more energy for exercise, and sit on the back porch sipping wine after dinner. Basically sunshine is life, and Spring/Summer feed it to my soul.

vacation

2.Vacations: Now, this isn’t a standard thing every year, but my hubs and I gravitate towards taking vacations between May-September. I guess it’s easy to pair with established holidays (because time off in America is a joke, of course), and there’s a certain nostalgia that goes along with summer vacation for us too. So, we fill our times with road trips, weekend getaways, international excursions and camping. This year we already have planned our first ever UK trip (coming up in 3 weeks!), a summer camping/cabin adventure….and who knows what else?! We’re looking forward to whatever comes our way!

Holiday

1.Holidays: I feel like most of my favorite holidays happen during this time of year! We kick off our Spring/Summer holiday sprint with “May The 4th Be With You,” followed by Cinco de Mayo. So, we’ve got a jam packed weekend! Then we celebrate our wedding anniversary on May 20th – also known as GREATEST DAY EVER/when I try my wedding dress on and pray it still fits/I hope I’m skinny forever/I know that’s a long shot – day. The end of May gives us Memorial Day (AKA a much needed three-day-weekend), which we usually pair with a trip (this year it’s the UK adventure!). THEN, July gives us magic and fireworks for Independence Day (which I LOVE, bc of grilling and family and colors and themes), followed very closely by MY BIRTHDAY on July 10th. I love birthdays, espeically my own. I think there’s something so special about celebrating life, and I never get tired of it. I also never get tired of getting older – I think it’s a badge of honor to get older and wiser, and I feel so grateful to do so. This year will be especially special, since I’ll be making my 30th revolution around the sun. 30 glorious years of learning who I am! Then we have a stint of normal life, but then Labor Day caps the end of Summer for us.

What do you guys look forward to about Spring & Summer? I hope you’ll be kicking your season off right too!

Cheers,
