So, this is what going out on a limb looks like?

So much of what we do (or don’t do) comes from fear.  Fear of failing, missing out, looking stupid- or sometimes, of succeeding.  When we have a notion in our head of something we want to do, somewhere we want to be- it can frighten us.  After all, it’s so much easier to stay exactly where we are, resisting change, holding the status quo.  Inside of that comfort, that little bubble, there’s much less room for those fears to sneak in.  As a creative person who often starts something but never finishes it, I know this fear well.  I know the rising heat in my throat that reminds me of criticism and judgement and condescension.  I know the inability to share a piece of writing, even with someone I love, for fear that they will see clearly how awful it is.  I know the feeling of tossing a drawing into the recycle bin, because my husband might see it and laugh at me (he would never).  This fucking thought that every little accomplishment I have is mundane, and pales in comparison to the greatness of other creatives.  WELL. I’m here to tell you, it’s time to take back what is ours:  space to create.  Will others judge you or think it’s dumb?  Of course they will!  Will there be moments you question if it’s worth doing?  For sure!  Will there be times when you are a little lazy and must force yourself to create?  Absolutely!  The point is, you did it, you’re doing it, it’s happening, you made it, it’s yours.

You. Made. It.  Therefore, it is beautiful and worthwhile.

Cheer’s to a new year and taking the plunge for creativity.  My dear friend Mic + I are taking a deep breath and embarking on a project that we are very excited about!  Please join us for our musings of all things pop culture, fandom, games, interviews, shenanigans, and general bitchery (because that’s what we do).  We will be defining our new show- Beauty and the Bitch- one step at a time, and are excited to use this creative spark to empower other endeavors in our life, and be a part of a community that we love.
